Essential Oils: How Essential are They?

All you need to know about the new trend behind the “...smelly-stuff. Essential oils contain compounds with unique healing and therapeutic benefits. They are referred to as the “true God’s medicine”. Pure and natural, extracted directly from the bark, flower fruit, leaves, nut, resin or root of a plant or tree, just one drop of an essential oil can provide amazing health benefits. They are key to helping people live free from sickness and disease. They are versatile and can be used in many problem areas such as: metabolism, gut health, hormones and energy.

Here are some of my favourites:

1. GINGER

 

WHY USE IT:  Reduces inflammation, supports joints, improves digestion and relieves nausea.

HOW TO USE IT: Apply straight onto your problem area; for example, rub a few drops on your stomach.

2. GRAPEFRUIT

 

WHY USE IT: Supports metabolism and cellulite reduction.

HOW TO USE IT: Mix it with coconut oil and rub on areas of cellulite or ingest a few drops internally with water!

3. LAVENDER

 

WHY USE IT: Helps with relaxation, improves mood and heals burns and cuts.

HOW TO USE IT: Apply two drops on your hands and rub them together and inhale or place a few drops into your infuser.

4. PEPPERMINT

 

WHY USE IT: Supports digestion, improves focus, boosts energy, reduces fever and relieves headaches and muscle pain.

HOW TO USE IT: When you experience a cold, add a few drops into a water basin with hot steaming water and lean over the basin while covering your head with a towel, inhale the steam from the essential oils for a few minutes and it should help with your sinus problems or congested nose. If you are experiencing a lack of energy, apply the essential oils to your wrists and rub your wrists together.

5. ROSEMARY

 

WHY USE IT: Can naturally thicken hair and improves brain function and memory, so it’s great for working, reading or studying.

HOW TO USE IT: You can add it to homemade shampoos or just apply two drops to your wrists (pulse points), rub them together and inhale.

In addition, different oils can be blended together to enhance energy, or can be blended with a base oil for massages, shower gels, or body lotions.
