Fashionable Fall Halloween Costumes

Happy Halloweekend!

If you’re stuck on what to wear this Halloween and aspire to be the fashionista at this year’s festivities, you’re in luck! Our trick is sure to save you time and money, perfect for those of you going out tonight but still stuck on what to wear.

Instead of an expensive, tacky costume from a local costume store, look around your wardrobe for pieces that could potentially be used for a costume. What colored clothing and accessories do you have the most of? How can your statement pieces be incorporated into a costume? The most fashionable halloween costumes look like avant-garde streetwear, so what avant-garde look can you create with your wardrobe? Now see if that look even remotely resembles a Halloween character, and then all you need are some finishing touches of makeup and accessories!

A twists on a classic costume is an easy way to showcase your creativity. Be a vampire, but be a chic vampire (e.g. smudged red lipstick instead of dripping blood); be a witch, but be a badass witch (e.g. leather jacket, long nails, lace top, pointy hat); be a hippie, but be a 2010s hippie (e.g. Urban Outfitter dress, flower crown, boho boots).

This year I’m going as an angel because I realized I love wearing white and consequently have a lot of white in my closet. All I needed to buy were wings and a halo. No corset, no fishnet, no tutu. I settled for white high-waisted jeans, my favorite lace bralette and a sheer, white statement scarf.

My friend is going as Dracula and he is planning to wear his red taffeta suit with a velvet-patterned button down and vest. He tops his rendition of Dracula off with some powder makeup, hollowed cheek contour, smudged red lipstick and a Satanic symbol necklace. No cape, no high collar, or no ruffled shirt necessary.

Basically, if you took off the few accessories that make your outfit look like a costume and can pass it off as a fashionable outfit, you’ve got yourself a fashionable Halloween costume. Also, good news! Attractive female Halloween costumes don’t have to be revealing and riddled with corsets and fishnets. You don’t need a cleavage-baring top or a barely-there skirt to be sexy and look ready for a party. Especially with this sudden wave of cold weather, wear a costume with more coverage so the only things you leave Halloweekend with are candy, a hangover and some great memories.

So this Halloween, ditch the store-bought costume, and try a new twist on a classic Halloween costume using your wardrobe. It’s a money saver and a terrific way to showcase your creativity.
