Say Hello to Inclusive and Affordable Lingerie
By Rachel Erwin
With the rise of Savage X Fenty, affordable yet high quality lingerie is becoming a growing trend. By placing an unprecedented focus on inclusivity and accessibility, Rihanna’s brand is paving the way for a new era of lingerie.
Everyone should be able to find lingerie that makes them feel confident and sexy without breaking the bank and, in addition to Savage X Fenty, there are a variety of lesser known companies to choose from. So, without further adieu, say goodbye to Victoria’s Secret and hello to this roundup of eight brands who are changing the lingerie game.
1. Bluebella
Launching four lingerie collections a year, Bluebella is a fashion-focused brand aiming to “redefine sensuality.” All of their lingerie is under $100, and the company is socially-conscious, having raised $5786 for multiple charities which support vulnerable women and their families. Sizes range from XXS-6XL, and the brand features modern designs with many bondage-inspired fabrics and styles.
2. Adore Me
Adore Me was founded to create affordable lingerie styles for everyone. Featuring an at-home try-on service, it is the perfect new brand to test out while in-person shopping is restricted due to COVID-19. For a $20 styling fee, Adore Me will put together a box with lingerie specifically selected to match your preferences and send it to you within seven days. You only pay for what you keep, and you can send the rest back. Sizes range from XS-4X, and everything is less than $75.
3. Figleaves
Featuring one of the largest size ranges, Figleaves offers lingerie for those of every size and shape. The founders recognized that most companies did not sell a wide enough variety of bras, so they created bras for all, with 130+ sizes. The GG-cup bras are just as sexy as the B-cup bras, and the average bra typically sells for $20-$30.
4. Love, Vera
Love, Vera is a Black-owned brand that uplifts “Black women, Black entrepreneurship and Black cultural influence.” The company seeks to hire Black talent, especially Black models. Most of their collection is under $50, and sizes range from XS-4X, including a curvy collection. With every purchase, more opportunities are given to Black people in the fashion industry.
5. Lonely
A New Zealand-based brand, Lonely features unique lingerie marketed by those who already love their products, who form the Lonely Girls Project. Members of this group include celebrities, three generations of one family in India and new mothers, among others. Their styles fall on the slightly-more expensive side, but the designs are stunning. Photos are not retouched, and they offer a size range from XS-XL.
6. Cacique
Cacique is a brand that celebrates all body types and people of all ages. They have “never met a curve they didn’t love,” and they offer a range of bras band size 34-50 and cup size B-K. Focusing mainly on plus-size lingerie, Cacique is affordable, as everything is under $100. Cacique has worked with its sister brands to donate more than $1.5 million to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
7. Blue Reign
A Black-owned, London-based company, Blue Reign puts “badass femininity on a pedestal.” The collection is made entirely of vegan leather, making it a great choice for those looking for cruelty-free lingerie. The pieces would be an edgy and powerful addition to anyone’s closet.
Of course, no list of game-changing lingerie would be complete without Rihanna’s groundbreaking brand. With bra sizes 32A through 44DDD, and sizes XS-3X for panties and lingerie, it is incredibly inclusive. It is also insanely affordable, with many styles only averaging $30. The colors are bold, and everyone can find something they love here.
Lingerie has long been viewed as something that only a size zero could wear with confidence. These brands are proof that sexy is not defined by your shape, size or color. Sexy is for everyone.
